FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
July 15, 2015
Dawson Creek Council would like to express its appreciation for the work done by the Office of the Auditor General for Local Government in auditing the City’s capital procurement processes. The insights provided by the audit have already resulted in the City making changes to improve our internal controls. Council has approved an action plan to ensure that further enhancements will be made in keeping with the Auditor General for Local Governments recommendations. That action plan is attached to the main report.
Mayor Bumstead notes that the City of Dawson Creek has received tremendous value from the audit. “The basic recommendations emerging from the audit process were known to us as we considered the path forward on our Arenas and Curling Rink. As a result we directed that a full business case be prepared prior to any final decision, and that sufficient contingency allowances were included once a budget was approved. We also are fully implementing the tangible capital assets framework included by the AGLG. We had actually expected to have to engage consultant expertise to develop such a framework, which the report provides for free.”
The City of Dawson Creek has been pleased to be part of the Auditor General for Local Government’s initial round of audits and looks forward to gaining further useful perspectives as future audits are released.
