Wildfire Update

To assist with the wildfires currently burning in our province, the Dawson Creek Fire Department has committed to send 5 firefighters, one Pumper truck and one support vehicle when requested by Emergency Management BC. An additional 10 firefighters have volunteered to go when relief is requested following the deployment of the first group. While we do not have a time frame for the deployment, our resources are available as soon as the City receives the call.

Further to the Fire Department resources being provided, Members of our local RCMP Detachment have been assisting in the policing responsibilities in the fire areas and more resources are being deployed in the next day or so. The City of Dawson Creek has had staff in Prince George over the past week to assist with the administrative work required for the registration of evacuees and to provide support in the emergency centres. Additional staff left today to Prince George to provide relief to the staff and volunteers that have been working tirelessly through the past week. Staff are also being provided to assist with the evacuees that have arrived in our community. While there are still several people to register, 24 families, consisting of 41 Adults and 15 children, have registered to date at our local centre. If you know of any evacuees in our community please have them check in at the Fire Hall or call 250-782-9898 if they have not already checked in.

According to the Province of British Columbia website, the Canadian Red Cross is supporting the Government of B.C. in providing relief in areas affected by wildfire. A British Columbia Fires Appeal has been opened for Canadians who wish to help those in need.

Your donation will help provide immediate relief such as cots, blankets, family reunification and financial assistance for food, clothing and personal needs. Beyond meeting immediate needs, your donation may also help re-entry and go towards more long-term recovery, resiliency and preparedness. For more information please visit www.gov.bc.ca.
