Rich coal deposits characterize the Tumbler Ridge area, southwest of Dawson Creek. New coal projects are planned to start production in the Burnt River and other areas as coal prices pick up over the next couple of years. Dawson Creek continues to be the major service and supply centre for the District of Tumbler Ridge, which is diversifying its economy.
