In Memory of Mayor Calvin Kruk - A place to share your thoughts & memories

On October 19, 2008, the Peace Country lost one of its most valuable leaders. Dawson Creek Mayor Calvin Kruk was one of a kind – visionary, passionate and generous. Whether related to sustainability, energy development or community infrastructure, Calvin’s visionary leadership contributed greatly to the betterment of the region as a whole.

After moving to Dawson Creek in 1990, Calvin enjoyed working with the community through his role as Manager of the Kiwanis Performing Arts Centre, City Councillor from 1999-2005 and as the proud Mayor from 2005 until his untimely passing. He was involved in numerous community organizations and was proud to reflect the community’s aspiration to move towards sustainability objectives, and realize our full potential.

Following the leadership of Calvin Kruk, the City of Dawson Creek will establish a centre for the arts in the heritage Federal Building in downtown Dawson Creek. The renovated building will honour Calvin’s leadership and commitment. The Calvin Kruk Centre for the Arts, a $10 million project, will continue Calvin’s environmental legacy by reusing an existing heritage building and retrofitting it with state of the art “green” technology which will decrease Dawson Creek’s environmental footprint while providing a much needed cultural amenity for the citizens of Dawson Creek.

We shall treasure our memories of Calvin. He was an incredible man whose legacy will live on through the Calvin Kruk Centre for the Arts –a project very close to Calvin’s heart.

The Prince George Spruce Kings are saddened by the news that Calvin Kruk, the mayor of Dawson Creek, has passed away. Calvin was a passionate ambassador for the City of Dawson Creek and the game of hockey. Through his efforts the Spruce Kings hockey club was invited to christen the brand new EnCana Events Centre with a pair of neutral site BCHL exhibition games. During our brief stay in Dawson Creek, Mayor Kruk and the entire city welcomed us with open arms and made us feel at home.

The Spruce Kings would like to pass along their condolences to Calvin Kruk's family, friends and the entire City of Dawson Creek.
