2017-20 Lifeguard in Training

The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for a part time Lifeguard in Training. Instructor certification is not required for this position.  Under the general supervision of the Aquatics Coordinator or designate, a lifeguard in training performs life guarding functions at the swimming pool as well as minor maintenance. The training position is an entry-level position with no previous experience as a lifeguard required. A lifeguard in training will work with an experienced lifeguard for the first 528 hours, after which he/she will be able to work independently as a lifeguard. There will be no automatic promotion to Lifeguard 1 following 528 hours of work, as a Lifeguard 1 position is required to also hold water safety instructor certification.

 

The successful applicants must demonstrate ability and possess the following current qualifications:

  • Current National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option);
  • Standard First Aid;
  • CPR Level C & AED Certification – to be recertified every six months.

 

The successful applicant will be required to complete and submit a Criminal Record Search, the results of which must be satisfactory to the City. The successful applicant will have the ability to perform all duties in a safe manner and to maintain harmonious relationships with all members of the public and other staff members.  Physical agility, the ability to complete duties requiring physical effort and a proven ability to provide excellent service to the public are required.

The Opportunity:  As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) you would be responsible for the City’s financial planning, statutory and compliance reporting and administration of its financial affairs.   You would provide financial advice to the CAO, Council and staff on decisions integrating business modeling and forecasting, best practices, risk management, asset management and innovative approaches to long term planning and sustainable and effective service delivery. You would be responsible for all of the statutory duties of the Financial Officer as required under the Local Government Act and the Community Charter.

The City of Dawson Creek invites applications from qualified Water Treatment Plant Operators with Level I (or higher) certification for a full time permanent position.  Under the general supervision of the Director of Infrastructure, Water & Environmental Manager, or designate, this position performs a variety of duties related to the collection, treatment, and distribution of water and wastewater.

The ideal candidate will have the following:

  • Grade 12 diploma, preferably with chemistry and algebra
  • Level I or higher Water Treatment Operator certification
  • Level I or higher Waste Water Treatment and Collection certification
  • Level I or higher Water Distribution Operator certification
  • Chlorine handler’s course certification
  • Cross Connection control certification
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Minimum one year experience with water and wastewater treatment and distribution.
