Trek to the SOUTH POLE
January 16-April 5, 2012
Dawson Creek, you ROSE to the challenge with Trek to the North Pole (click here to view results). So we came up with a bigger challenge: Trek to the South Pole.
Once again, we challenge the community and surrounding area to be active and trek the 16,184 km to the South Pole. If we get there before April 5, we’re trekking all the way back!
How it works: Starting January 16, register yourself or a team at the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre or Community Services Department and pick up your challenge kit. Everyone can participate in this fun activity! All you need to do is exercise regularly and record your activity and distance in this book or submit it online. Everyone’s efforts will be charted on the South Pole Map.
There will be prizes!
Challenge Guidelines:
Record your activity and distance. This event is a community effort so please return your form or submit online weekly, please drop it off at any of these locations: Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre or Community Services (City Hall)
- Make sure your name, phone number and team name (if applicable) are on the form
- Please submit your form on a weekly basis. (Click here to submit online!) Call 250-784-3604 or 250-782-7946 for more information.
Stats: There were 288 people registered for Trek to the North Pole however, only 108 people submitted their distances. We’d like more people to participate!
How did those registered stay active? These are some of the activities people did for Trek to the North Pole: Walking, Curling, Swimming, Going to the Gym, Going to Curves, Treadmill, Elliptical Trainer, Zumba, Aerobics, Hockey, Water Running, Running, Tabata (Water and Dry land classes), Spinning, Jogging, Bicycling, Shopping, Cleaning, Shovelling the Driveway, Bowling, Hunting, Skating, Emptying Wastebaskets, Walking the Dog, Taebo, Dancing and Basketball!
The Community Services Department wishes to thank EVERYONE who participated and supported the first Community Challenge.
