Water Safety Classes

No time to come down and register? Go LIVE and register online.

Drowning is the second most common cause of death among young Canadians. Most of these incidents are preventable. In 1999 (most current statistics), 24 toddlers (aged 1-4yrs.) drowned. 4 of these toddlers were supervised by minors, 9 were supervised by adults and 11 were alone. In 1999, 68% of boaters who drowned were not wearing life jackets, and 80% of all victims were male. Adult supervision of all children in and around the water is vital, and enrolling your child in water safety classes is an important part of their safety.

At the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre, we maintain our high quality of instruction in a number of ways. Our Instructors make written lesson plans every day for each class. They incorporate daily goals for each child and are trained to adapt drills and activities to improve each individual’s strokes.

1. Preschool Age (3 – 5 years old)

Instructors use creativity, imagination and enthusiasm to help your child learn to love swimming and to begin a solid foundation of how to stay safe in, on and around water.  When these swimmers turn 6, they join the Swim Kids level that best suits their ability. Please view our Refund/Credit/Transfer Policy below.

Fees: $60.00 for ten 30 minute classes (Class max: 6)

2. School Age (ages 6 & up)

Children are taught to swim in logical, progressive steps.  Initially, they work on breath control and body positioning.  Next, a propulsive kick is introduced and then a strong, effective arm stroke.  Front crawl and back stroke are the focus of the first 5 levels.  Elementary backstroke and breaststroke are introduced and perfected in the later levels, while students continue to build their front crawl and back stroke endurance.  Upon completion of Level 10, students are able to swim 20 lengths with ease. Please view our Refund/Credit/Transfer Policy below.

Fees:

  • $55.00 (Level 1 thru 6) for ten 30 minute classes (Class max: 6)
  • $80.00 (Level 7 & 8) for ten 45 minute classes (Class max: 8)
  • $TBA (Level 9 & 10) for ten 1 hour classes (Class max: 8)

Parent & Tot

Relax, socialize with other parent and learn swimming skills and water safety relevant to you and your child.  Babies must be able to hold their head up.  All tots who are not 100% toilet trained must wear water diapers. Please view our Refund/Credit/Transfer Policy below.
