Dawson Creek Fire Department

The Dawson Creek Fire Department provides fire fighting and rescue services to the City of Dawson Creek, Dawson Creek Airport and a 5 mile rural area around the City.  The Fire Department also provides motor vehicle extrication anywhere requested by the RCMP or Ambulance Service.

The Department is staffed by Fire Chief, Chief Gordon “Shorty” Smith, Deputy Fire Chief Bob Fulton, a Fire Prevention Officer, 16 Full Time Fire Fighters and 12 Auxiliary Volunteer Fire Fighters.

Do you know what to do when meeting an emergency vehicle?

Pull over to the right and stop as soon as possible, this applies to traffic going in both directions. At intersections, yield to all emergency vehicles. Don’t block the intersection, don’t turn left in advance of emergency vehicles and never try and beat an emergency vehicle coming in any direction.

911

When the area 911 system came on stream in April 2001, the Dawson Creek Fire Department became the fire dispatch centre for the whole South Peace River area. The Department now receives all fire calls from this area and dispatch fire departments in Chetwynd, Tumbler Ridge, Pouce Coupe, Moberly Lake, Tomslake and Arras through a system of radios, radio/telephone interconnects and satellite phones.

Equipment

The Department is well equipped with 6 pieces of modern fire fighting equipment.  The City has also recently purchased the first aerial ladder equipped fire truck in the history of the Fire Department. This new truck is a 2001 HME equipped with a 75′ aerial ladder, monitor nozzle, pump, ground ladders and hose.
