Public Works

Objective - to continue providing a high level of quality in the delivery of all services.

Goals

  • Continue Capital Works programs such as paving, sidewalks and other physical improvements;
  • Continue to improve the quality and delivery of services such as water, sewer, transportation and solid waste (recycling, etc.)

Street Lights:
The City maintains street lights on metal poles and BC Hydro maintains all street lights that are on wooden poles. Please call 784-3623 to report all outages.

Dirty Water:
If your water becomes coloured or dirty during the water main flushing program, run your taps for ten or fifteen minutes and the water should then flow clear.

Snow and Ice Control:
Snow plowing/removal is completed on a priority basis. Residential areas will be addressed when all priority areas have been completed.

FAQ: When the snowplow goes by and clears the road, he also blocks my driveway with snow. Will the City clear my driveway?

Unfortunately, the answer is no. Clearing individual driveways is extremely expensive and places a huge strain on City resources. The City utilizes graders with snow gates in residential areas to try to eliminate blocking driveways.

Sewer Backup:
Try to determine where the blockage is. Is a toilet or sink blocked, or is the sewer service blocked (the main drain pipe leading out from the house)? It is the homeowner’s responsibility to clear any household or service blockages. Homeowners are responsible for the service to the main. If the problem still exists after contacting a plumber to clear the blockage, contact the Public Works Dept. at 784-3623 Monday to Friday 8 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Evenings and Weekends call 782-9898.

Tasks performed by the Public Works Crews:
Sign installations, repairs, street sweeping, line marking, pothole repair, grading, snow and ice control, ditching, catch basins, storm drains, manhole repairs, hydrant and valve maintenance and street lighting.
