![]() Health & Medical ServicesThe centrally located Dawson Creek and District Hospital offers a wide range of services and is a centre of excellence in health care in Northeast British Columbia. Health CareUp-to-the-minute Out Patient, Rehabilitation, Diagnostic Imaging, and Laboratory departments provide the community with a quality of care that is unsurpassed. Integrated acute and community mental health programs operate in Dawson Creek through a partnership between the South Peace Health Council and the Peace Liard Health Services Society. Addictions counseling and home and family support services are also readily available in Dawson Creek. Dawson Creek's youngest citizens with special needs find quality care at the Child Development Centre. This facility is one of several pediatric rehabilitation centres in British Columbia to which infants and children, from birth to age 19, may be referred for assessment and treatment of disabilities and/or developmental delays. The elderly in Dawson Creek and area rely on the services of three continuing care facilities. Peace River Haven Intermediate Care Home and Pouce Coupe Care Home are both located just outside of Dawson Creek in the Village of Pouce Coupe. The most recent health care facility in Dawson Creek, Rotary Manor, is a state-of-the-art multi-level Seniors' care complex, and services the specific needs of the Peace Country residents. The facility has room for 44 residents and includes an adult day centre. In addition Southview Supportive Housing, a 30-unit housing complex for seniors, is linked to the facility by a covered breezeway. The housing complex provides cost effective housing alternatives. This alternative delays the need for long term residential care while meeting the changing needs of seniors and promoting their independence and quality of life. This housing complex also includes underground parking and access to services provided at the care facility. All of these continuing care facilities are dedicated to providing "quality of life" care to their residents.
Community Health GuideThe Community Health Guide is a comprehensive information tool, which details the various services within the Peace-Liard region and is being distributed around the area to promote health services in the area. Phone numbers and websites, which range from home support services to mental health care, are listed in the free guide. If you have any questions or wish to add information to the SONS Health Guide, please contact James and Margaret Little at jalittle@awink.com.
