Water Rate News

City Council increased the water rates in 2011 because the City needed to save money for future water capital projects like a water reservoir.  The decision to increase them was based on years of planning.  The five year plan shows that with the change in rates the City’s water capital reserve will increase from $2.3 million (2011) to $9.5 million1 (2016).  This money can then be used with provincial and federal grants and debt to build new infrastructure like a reservoir.

The second rate increase will begin January 1, 2013.  Variable rates will increase from $1.20/m3 to $1.68m3.  The fixed infrastructure charge will NOT increase.
