The 2018 recipients of the Kindness Meter donations were present today at the City Council Meeting to receive the funds that were donated for the year. Each year two groups are drawn from the pile of applications that were received from local non-profits, and those groups receive the funds that are donated throughout the year by the citizens of Dawson Creek, as well as TransCanada.
How are the funds donated? Spare change is collected using our refurbished parking meters. The meters can be found at four different locations: the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre, outside of the Chamber of Commerce, the Calvin Kruk Centre, and the Memorial Arena. Once all of the funds for the year are added up, TransCanada generously matches those funds, and a cheque is drawn up for each non-profit organization.
The 2018 recipients, Networks Ministries and the South Peace Building Learning Together (BLT) Society, received $540.79 each.
Way to go, Dawson Creek!
