The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for a full time Aquatics Lifeguard/Instructor III position. Shifts may vary based on operational requirements. Under the general supervision of the Aquatic Coordinator or designate, a Lifeguard/Instructor 3 performs lifeguarding functions and provides instruction in a number of aquatic programs and skills at the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre as well as minor maintenance.

The successful applicant must demonstrate ability and possess the following current qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12, or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option);
  • Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification;
  • Lifesaving Instructor certification;
  • Water Fitness Instructor Certification :
    • An applicant without a Water Fitness Certificate may be considered subject to the requirement of successful completion and certification in a Water Fitness Certification program.
  • Pool Operators Level 2 certification
  • Standard First Aid/CPR “C” certification:
    • Occupational First Aid Level 1
  • Certified in at least two of the following instructor certification:
    • Water Safety Instructor Trainer
    • National Lifeguard Instructor Certification
    • First Aid, CPR & AED Instructor
    • Lifesaving Instructor Trainer
  • 1 year experience in a leadership role; and
  • 3 years’ experience (minimum 1500 hours) as a Lifeguard/instructor.

The successful applicant will be required to complete and submit a Security/Reliability Clearance and Criminal Record Search, the results of which must be satisfactory to the City. Along with a demonstrated teaching and leadership ability, the successful applicant will have the ability to perform all duties in a safe manner and to maintain harmonious relationships with all members of the public and other staff members.  Physical agility, the ability to complete duties requiring physical effort and a proven ability to provide excellent service to the public are required.
