The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for the position of Engineering Assistant III. Under the general supervision of the Development Services Manager or designate, the Engineering Assistant III is responsible for the design, layout, and inspection of municipal infrastructure capital works. This is a full time permanent position.

The successful applicant must be able to assist with a variety of tasks including budgeting, planning, construction and drafting of municipal infrastructure capital works, assists with preparation of contracts, work schedules and provides direction to contractors and monitors worksites. The successful candidate inspects municipal infrastructure installations to ensure grades, lines, and materials specifications are adhered to. Duties will include responding to enquiries from the public with regard to municipal infrastructure and maintaining records, service connection files, and maps for all municipal utilities. The successful candidate will be required to take a lead role over engineering employees working on infrastructure installations.

The successful candidate must have completed Grade 12 and a 2 year Civil Engineer Technologist Diploma Program and must be registered as a Certified Engineering Technologist or Technician or hold the equivalent skill, knowledge and ability attained through post-secondary education. A good working knowledge of C.A.D. and other computer programs used in municipal engineering, and a working knowledge of surveying and drafting techniques is also required. The successful applicant must be willing to work overtime hours and have a valid Class 5 Drivers’ License. Candidates must have the physical agility and ability to complete duties requiring physical effort and to perform all duties in a safe manner and must also demonstrate an ability to maintain harmonious relationships with all members of the public and other staff members while following established procedures.
