The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for the position of Assistant Public Works Manager. This permanent full-time position reports to the Public Works Manager and is responsible for the operation and maintenance of the Public Works Department which includes all of the City’s roads and utilities infrastructure.

The successful candidate will have at least three years supervisory experience, preferably in a unionized and local government setting, with experience  in monitoring and assessing job performance and abilities, creating work schedules and management of staff training. The successful candidate will also possess an EOCP Water Distribution Level II certification or higher, an EOCP Wastewater Collection Level I certification or higher and will have the ability and desire to achieve higher levels of each with the experience they gain from working in this position. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills will be important to aid cooperation with staff, contractors and the public. Demonstrated problem solving and project management skills will also be considered assets.

Experience with any of the following is considered an asset:

  • Water distribution & wastewater collection systems
  • Public Works operations
  • Fleet management
  • Developing and monitoring departmental operational and capital budgets
  • Safety supervision and compliance
  • Project management
  • Working in local government
  • Road/sidewalk/parking lot maintenance
  • Working with utility companies, government agencies and contractors
