The City of Dawson Creek invites applications for a full time Aquatics Lifeguard/Instructor III position. Under the general supervision of the Aquatic Coordinator or designate, a Lifeguard/Instructor III will be a senior leader and support the Aquatic Coordinator in shift coverage, training, procedures, and ensuring standards are met while on and off the deck with staff.  The Aquatics Lifeguard/Instructor III will also ensure program quality in keeping with accepted standards and maintenance, and will have supervisory duties towards lifeguards, instructors, and support personnel.

The successful applicant must demonstrate ability and possess the following current qualifications, which should be submitted alongside their résumé:

  • Current National Lifeguard Award (Pool Option);
  • Current Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Certification;
  • Current Standard First Aid with CPR C certification;
  • Current Occupational First Aid (OFA) Level 1;
  • Current Lifesaving Instructor Certification;
  • Minimum two of the following certificates (must be current):
  • Water Safety Instructor Trainer
  • National Lifeguard Instructor Certification
  • First Aid, CPR & AED Instructor
  • Lifesaving Instructor Trainer
  • Pool Operator Certification Level 2;
  • Current Aquatic Fitness Instructor Certification from a recognized organization;
  • Completion of Grade 12, or an equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • One year experience in a leadership role at an aquatic facility; and
  • Three years’ experience (minimum 1500 hours) as a lifeguard/instructor.

The successful applicant will be required to complete and submit a Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector), the results of which must be satisfactory to the City. Along with a demonstrated teaching and leadership ability, the successful applicant will have the ability to perform all duties in a safe manner and to maintain harmonious relationships with all members of the public and other staff members.  Physical agility, the ability to complete duties requiring physical effort and a proven ability to provide excellent service to the public are required.
