Lifeguard / Instructor Sponsorship Program

Are you interested in becoming a Lifeguard, Swim Instructor and/or a Climbing Wall Instructor?

You may be eligible to have the cost of your courses paid for by the Obair Economic Society!

The City of Dawson Creek is partnering with the Obair Economic Society to help individuals achieve their goal of getting certified!

If you can’t swim but still wish to become a Lifeguard and/or Swim Instructor, the Obair Economic Society will also assist in providing funding for lessons to move you towards that goal!

This opportunity is open to anyone who is:

  • 15 years of age, or older
  • Looking to start a career in Aquatics
  • Looking for a career change
  • Looking for a better wage

How it works:

  1. Pick up a Referral Form and Questionnaire Intake Form at one of these locations during business hours
    • Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre (#2 300 Hwy 2)
      • Sat, 10am-5pm
      • Sun, 12-5pm
      • Mon-Wed, 9am-1pm, 6-9pm
    • City Hall – Community Services Office (10105 12A St.)

  2. Fill out the Referral Form and have it signed by the Aquatic Coordinator at the Pool, or the Recreation Manager at City Hall.
  3. Bring the signed Referral Form, along with the Intake Form to the Obair Economic Society for review. It is recommended that you fill out the Intake Form in advance.
  4. Through the intake process, Obair staff will determine eligibility. If successful, you will then be sponsored through the various courses required to become a certified Lifeguard, Swim Instructor and/or Climbing Wall Instructor.
  5. Once all requirements are met, at the end of the program there will be a formal interview for the opportunity to join the Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre Team!
