Extreme Cold Warning With dropping temperatures, the Nawican Friendship Centre’s Shelter will operate as a Warming Centre from February 21- 26, 2023. This low-barrier site will offer a safe place to be, warm beverages, and light snacks. The warming centre is located at 1401-102 Avenue. Thank you to the Province and to the Nawican Friendship Centre for providing this service.
City Receives Grant for Emergency Social Services

The City of Dawson Creek’s Emergency Social Services program has received $22,594.20 from the Union of BC Municipalities. Emergency Social Services is a provincial mandated Program which supports those impacted by an emergency or disaster. This grant will provide the funding to digitize the ESS Program as well as obtain a mobile unit with supplies for two reception centres. Reception centres are the areas identified as safe refuge or check in points for those displaced during an emergency.
City Hires Emergency Planning Manager

In September of 2021, the City of Dawson Creek hired an Emergency Planning Manager to support the review and implementation of the City’s Emergency Management Plan. Modernization of the Provincial Emergency Program Act is scheduled for Fall 2022. This transition is focused on the four pillars of emergency management: 1) Mitigation and Prevention, 2) Preparedness, 3) Response, and 4) Recovery.
