Paying Property Taxes

Property tax payments for the City of Dawson Creek are due at the beginning of July each year. Contact our Tax Clerk for estimated property taxes and the 2025 property tax rates.

The 2025 due date for taxes is July 2, 2025.

Payment options

Pre-authorized payments

We recommend monthly prepayment of taxes. Pre-authorized payments are withdrawn automatically for ten months on the first of each month (except in June and July).

  • Complete the Pre-authorized Payment form
  • Attach a void cheque
  • Submit the completed form and void cheque to:
    • Tax Clerk, 10105 12A St, Dawson Creek, BC, V1G 3V7
    • or drop off in person at City Hall

Benefits of prepaying property taxes

  • Interest is earned on the prepaid amount and is applied to your taxes on December 31 and April 30 of each year. The rate of interest is based on the prime lending rate of the principal banker to the Province of BC. Interest is not paid from May 1 to July 4.
  • Paying on a monthly basis helps maintain a consistent cash flow and easy-to-maintain household budget.

Online banking

Set up payment through your online banking.

  • Add “Dawson Creek Taxes BC” (DawCrkTaxBC) as a payee through your online banking.
  • Enter the 9-digit tax roll number from your property tax notice. Do not include the # sign or any decimals, for example 001234.500 will become 001234500.
  • Submit the payment 3-5 days before the property tax due date to allow for payment processing.

Credit card

We accept VISA and MasterCard with an additional 2% fee.

  • Pay over the phone by calling 250-784-3600
  • Pay in person at City Hall

At your bank

Pay your taxes in person at your bank.

  • Bring your property tax notice with you to complete your payment.

In person

Pay your taxes in person at City Hall.

  • Bring your property tax notice with you to complete your payment faster. If you do not have your notice, City staff will be able assist you.

Home Owner Grants

Unclaimed Home Owner Grants are considered unpaid property taxes. As of May 2021, you can now apply for your home owner grant online through the Province.

  • Municipalities are NO longer accepting applications. Program eligibility is unchanged.
  • Home Owners must apply each year. Only one registered owner, who qualifies, is to apply.
  • To apply online, visit gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant.
  • To apply by phone, call toll free 1-888-355-2700
  • When you apply:
    • You must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
    • You must live in BC
    • You must occupy the residence as your principal residence
    • You will need your Social Insurance Number and birth date
    • Roll number (found on your property tax notice)
    • City of Dawson Creek Jurisdiction number is 206

In order to avoid penalties and interest, apply before the tax due date. Learn more at gov.bc.ca/homeownergrant or phone 1-888-355-2700 to speak with a live agent.
