Water and Sewer Treatment

The City of Dawson Creek's Water and Environmental Department provides high quality drinking water treatment and wastewater management. Our water treatment plant operators are responsible for drinking water, distribution, and wastewater management. They also operate the Reclamation Facility and the Truck Waste Facility.

Water supply system

The City takes water from the Kiskatinaw River at Arras. Untreated water travels 16 km through a series of five reservoirs before entering the water plant. We call the reservoirs dams. These dams hold enough water for about 200 days of City water use.

Water treatment

The City's Level 4 Treatment Plant requires highly trained Water Treatment Plant Operators, accountable operations, and continual water quality monitoring. The plant can clean up to 14,500 m3/day.

Water reclamation plant

The Reclaimed Water Project began in 2010 with a partnership between Shell Canada and the City of Dawson Creek.

The reclaimed water facility takes wastewater from the City's lagoons. Then it cleans the water using Submerged Attached Growth Reactors (SAGR) built beside the lagoon system. We complete further polishing and disinfection through coagulation and disc filtration. The treated water is stored in a well below the building.
