The City's drinking water supply comes from the Kiskatinaw River. Bearhole Lake is the beginning of the River. Water flows over 170 kms to the Arras Pumphouse where the City pumps the water into a series of reservoirs.
The Watershed Stewardship Program monitors water levels and water quality. They also work with stakeholders to apply best management practices in the watershed.
The City's namesake “the Dawson Creek” runs through the middle of the community. The Watershed Program has many stations in the creek that track water level. During flood events, staff use water level data to make decisions on road closures and evacuations. These stations also support research and water license compliance.
In 2019, the City updated their Flood Mapping. The Environmental staff have taken this information and implemented many flood mitigation projects.
