Floodplain Exemptions

A floodplain exemption allows you to build within the designated floodplain. We evaluate all applications for exemptions based on:

  • Current policies found in our Official Community Plan
  • Most recent floodplain studies
  • Provincial Flood Hazard Area Land Use Management Guidelines

Map

Our Zoning Bylaw restricts construction in the designated areas shown on the Floodplain Map.

Steps

  1. Ask for a Council Resolution
    • City Council reviews and approves floodplain exemptions
    • Development Services Staff can assist you with your request
  2. Submit an application for a Development Permit to build within the floodplain
    • The floodplain is a natural hazard area
