In recent years, the community has expressed to Council the need for them to consider an outdoor water feature in response to the closure of Rotary Lake. This notion was supported through the engagement and development of the City’s Park, Recreation and Culture Master Plan. The second outdoor priority identified in the plan is a splash park/water feature.
In the summer of 2023, City officials and staff met with a focus group comprised of community members to discuss what was heard at the community group’s meetings. Staff compiled this information and met with consultants to understand spray park design and construction considerations. This information was brought to Council in a report on November 27, 2023.
At the November 27th Council Meeting, Council directed staff to begin engagement, identify a preferred location and bring a budget back to Council for a destination misting park or splash pad. Staff have been working with consultants to develop a splash park engagement process, including a community survey.
This survey will allow residents to rank specific park criteria, which will identify the community’s key priorities in a splash park or misting pad. The priorities will help narrow down:
The recommendation for the park location will be brought to the April 29, 2024 Council Meeting for consideration in moving forward.
The survey is available at www.surveymonkey.ca/r/DawsonCreekSplashPark and will remain open until April 19, 2024.
