As of January 2021, the City of Dawson Creek's Grant Writing Support Service has been moved in-house. This allows the grant writer to focus on City Capital projects to help close the fiscal gap in the City's budget.
Although the City Grant Writer is focusing on City projects and grant applications, the Grant Writer may be able to help out with community non-profit projects if there is time. Contact our Grant Writer to find out if they are available.
Who can access the grant writing services? |
Organizations must operate as a non-profit to be eligible for grant writing support. While it is helpful to be an incorporated Society for many funding programs, this is not required to access the service. |
Is there a priority ranking for Grant Writer time? |
Yes. City of Dawson Creek projects have first priority for the Grant Writer's time. If the Grant Writer has extra time help may be given in the following priority:
Many grants have specific application periods and deadlines, whereas others are continuous. The Grant Writer will work to complete all applications on time but there may be some interruptions in your service for other projects with approaching deadlines. During peak deadline seasons the grant writer may have limited availability. |
Does my organization need to pay for this service? |
No. The Grant Writing Support program is provided by the City of Dawson Creek, in partnership with Northern Development Initiative Trust. |
How long before a deadline do I need to be in contact? |
As soon as possible. It is a good idea to be in contact well before a deadline because of the demand on the Grant Writer's time for City projects. You must provide all the details required to complete an application at least two weeks before a deadline. If your grant requires a City Council resolution more time is required. |
Can the Grant Writer help us develop a project? |
Organizations will provide all the required details about a project to the Grant Writer, including:
The Grant Writer's role is to assist with finding grants, but it is up to the organization to provide the required information. |
What if we have a financial need but do not know which grants we can apply to? |
No problem! The Grant Writer has access to a funding research database. They also have a good idea of general timelines and deadlines for different grant programs throughout the year. If you have a specific project in mind, let the Grant Writer know so that they can research potential funders. |
