Certification Classes

We offer a variety of lifeguard certification classes including first aid, instructor, lifeguard and other certifications.

First Aid Certification

Register for an Emergency First Aid class, Standard First Aid Class, or a recertification class. Emergency First Aid and Standard First Aid are both a WorkSafeBC Occupational Level 1 equivalent and can be used in the workplace.

Interested in learning how to teach First Aid, Lifesaving, Swim lessons, Lifeguarding or Climbing? You can become certified as an instructor in a number of different areas!

Lifeguard Certification

We are often looking to add new lifeguards to our team. View our current job postings and imagine a future with us. View upcoming Lifeguard Certification classes and complete the following courses to become a lifeguard:

Bronze Medallion

Pre-requisite: 13 years of age or have completed Bronze Star

  • Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn advanced lifesaving techniques for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims in varying water depths.
Bronze Cross

Pre-requisite: Bronze Medallion

Lifesaving Society Website

 

  • Bronze Cross is worth 2 credits for grade 11. Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safety supervision. As the Lifesaving Society's Assistance Lifeguard program, Bronze Cross hones judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness to prepare candidates for success in National Lifeguard (NL) and instructor certifications.
Standard First Aid / CPR-C
  • Provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid, CPR and AED use! Whether you need training for employment or simply want to be prepared to respond to life-threatening emergencies, this course will give you the skills and knowledge to act with confidence.
National Lifeguard - Pool Option

Pre-requisites: Bronze Cross (need not be current), Standard First Aid from a recognized Agency, 15 years old (by last day), Airway Management and Oxygen Administration

Lifesaving Society Website

  • National Lifeguard is worth 2 credits for grade 12. The primary role of a lifeguard is to prevent incidents and, where this fails, the timely and effective resolution of emergencies. National Lifeguard builds on the previously learned lifesaving principles and is designed to prepare candidates to be professional facilitators of safety in aquatic environments.

Arena and Refrigeration Courses

Courses such as Ice Facility Operator, Arena Ice Maker, Refrigeration Operator and Refrigeration Safety Awareness can be found at the Recreation Facilities Association Website.
