Dawson Creek Water Supply System Project
The Dawson Creek Water Supply System Project involves building a water line to a new, reliable water source for Dawson Creek and the region.
It includes the following core components:
• Water Intake System: Groundwater wells and pipe river intake to withdraw water
• Water Transmission Pipeline: Approximately 52km of pipeline between Taylor, BC and Dawson Creek, BC
• Pumping Stations: Up to two pumping stations - one near the Peace River and another near the Kiskatinaw River
Early Engagement
The Dawson Creek Water Supply System project is in the early stages of environmental review with the Province of BC Environmental Assessment Office (EAO). Early Engagement began in September, with the public comment period being open from September 23 and ran until October 23, 2025.
The compiled feedback is now available for viewing on the EAO's website at EPIC.engage.
Why this project is needed
In early 2024, low flows in the Kiskatinaw River prevented pumping for almost two months. This project will improve water security, support agriculture and industry, aid emergency response in drought and fire seasons, and reduce pressure on the Kiskatinaw watershed.
Benefits to the region
- High-quality and secure water source for residents of Dawson Creek, Pouce Coupe, and the surrounding region for domestic use, agriculture, industry, and wildfire mitigation
- Reduces stress on, and promotes recovery, of the Kiskatinaw River Watershed
- Promotes stewardship of water resources in the region for the benefit of all water users
Where we are in the process
The BC Environmental Assessment Office has issued a Section 13 order, starting Early Engagement. The City will request an exemption from the requirement for an Environmental Assessment Certificate. Engagement will continue as the Project design advances, including to support permitting, such as water licensing and other anticipated approvals.

Information for landowners and rights holders
If your property is within or near the corridor, the City or its representatives may contact you about routing, access, temporary work space, and safety. The project is still in the early planning and design phase, and at this stage the corridor represents the broader area being studied. The final pipeline footprint will be narrower and will be refined within the corridor as technical work and engagement with landowners advances.
Engagement with Indigenous communities
The City has shared project materials with surrounding First Nations and Métis communities and will continue to engage during Early Engagement and through secondary permits. Indigenous knowledge will be handled in line with applicable legislation and community direction.
