City Begins 2025 Zoning Bylaw Update – Survey Now Open

Dawson Creek, BC – The City of Dawson Creek is updating its Zoning Bylaw. Many changes have happened in Dawson Creek over the past few years, including implementing several new master plans and policies, and the development of a new Interim Housing Needs Report and the City’s new Official Community Plan (OCP) which is set for adoption in Fall 2025. In addition, new legislation has come into effect which requires every municipality in BC to update their Zoning Bylaw by December 31, 2025. These factors, along with legislative requirements, require a review and update of the City’s Zoning Bylaw.

How the Zoning Bylaw Impacts You

The Zoning Bylaw is a key tool that guides how land is used and developed in Dawson Creek. It is a rulebook for land use that outlines what can be built, where, and how. It applies to everyone: homeowners, renters, businesses, developers, and the City itself.

The bylaw sets out specific rules for each zone in the community. These rules include what types of buildings or activities are allowed, where houses, shops, or businesses can go, how tall buildings or fences can be, and much more. It helps answer questions like:

·         What can I do on my property?

·         Where can I build a house or open a business?

·         How tall can my fence be?

Online Survey Now Open

Updating the Zoning Bylaw is an important process, and requires community engagement, technical review and an approval process through City Council. The next step is community engagement through a survey. We want to hear your feedback on zoning-related topics.

The survey is now open until Wednesday, September 10, 2025 at 4:30 PM. Complete the survey online or in person at City Hall, 10105 12A Street.
