Dawson Creek Wins International Sport Event of the Year at the STC PRESTIGE Awards

Dawson Creek, BC — The City of Dawson Creek has won International Sport Event of the Year – Group B (Budget Less Than $2M) at the Sport Tourism Canada PRESTIGE Awards, held Wednesday, March 11 in Mississauga. The award recognizes the City’s successful hosting of the 2025 Para Cup at the Ovintiv Events Centre.

Presented annually by Sport Tourism Canada, the PRESTIGE Awards celebrate Canada’s top sport tourism events and initiatives. The International Sport Event of the Year Award recognizes the overall success of an outstanding international sport event held in Canada in 2025.

“These awards are a tremendous honour for our community,” said Mayor Darcy Dober. “Hosting the Para Cup showed what’s possible when a community comes together. Our partnerships across the region, the dedication of our volunteers, host committee, and the Ovintiv Events Centre team, as well as our strong relationship with Hockey Canada all played a role in making this event such a success.”

The 2025 Para Cup brought elite international para hockey athletes to Dawson Creek and showcased the city’s ability to host high-level sporting events while leaving a lasting legacy for sport and inclusion in the region.
