Summer 2025 Play Structure Additions and Removals

Dawson Creek, BC - In 2024, an external review of the City’s playgrounds found safety issues with some of the equipment. These play structures do not meet current Canadian Safety Association (CSA) safety standards and could pose risks to users. Because of this, it was recommended that some structures be removed from certain parks. In other parks, it was suggested the equipment be upgraded or combined with nearby play areas to improve safety and value.

Several older play structures and devices that no longer meet current CSA safety requirements are scheduled for removal starting mid-July. The following park locations and corresponding equipment are included in the removal schedule:

Playground Replacement and Addition

One replacement playground and a new playground will be added to the City’s roster this year, with plans to replace additional structures in 2026. Playground structures to be replaced or added this year include:

  • Replacing the play structure at the Harry Morrow Ball Diamonds in the South Peace Multiplex Sports Fields
  • Adding a play structure at 16 Street and 104/105 Avenue

This work is part of a broader effort to maintain safe and accessible recreational spaces for all residents. Future plans for replacement or upgrades at these sites will be shared as they become available.
