2025 Capital Projects Update

Many of the 2025 projects on the list for Capital Projects have been completed or are nearing completion. Read more about the latest update on major projects below or visit www.dawsoncreek.ca/capitalprojects to find more information on each project. 

Drainage, Paving, Sewer and Water

  • 1 Street from 116 Avenue to Highway 2 – Paving
    • The tender for the project has been awarded and construction will begin in the coming weeks; paving is scheduled for mid-September.
  • 110 Avenue from 15 Street to 17 Street – Drainage, Paving, Sewer and Water
    • Milling was completed on August 20, 2025. In the next few weeks, the road will be cored to prepare for rebuilding. New water lines will also be added during this project to help improve water flow in the city's system.
  • 95 Avenue from 8 Street to 13 Street – Drainage, Paving, Sewer and Water
    • This project is on schedule to finish by the end of fall. Streetlight infrastructure is currently being installed. Crews are also rebuilding the road base to get ready for new curbs and gutters.
  • Arenas Parking Lot: Phase 1 – Drainage
    • The construction tender has been awarded to and work is scheduled to begin in the coming weeks. Arena parking lots will remain open, and access to the arenas will be maintained throughout the duration of the project.
  • Barbaree Park: Storm Daylighting and Beautification – Drainage
    • Environmental permits are in place and work has begun.
  • Lagoon Aeration Lines Replacement
    • The project began late August and will continue through to mid October. It is anticipated that there will be no disruption to regular services or the environment for the duration of the project.
  • Mile Zero Parks Society Misting Pad Water Service
    • The water line is now repaired and the misting pad is open for play.
  • Sewer Trunk Main Replacement: Phase 1 - 110 Avenue from 13 Street to 8 Street
    • The project is ahead of schedule and estimated completion is early October. 

Facilities, Media and Technology

  • City Hall Capacity and Security Measures
    • Construction to begin in October – affects main floor City Hall.
  • City Hall Cenotaph Design
    • The planning phase will begin in Fall 2025, with construction to follow in 2026/2027.
  • Dawson Creek Exhibition Association Horse Barns: Permitting & Professional Fees
    • The barns have reached the lock-up phase, with final finishing and electrical and mechanical to be completed in 2026.
  • Harry Morrow Diamond 1 Outfield Remediation
    • Work will begin in Fall 2025.
  • Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre: Regrout Main Pool, Pool Pilots & Lights
    • Shutdown began August 16, 2025 and work is now underway. The pool will reopen October 11, 2025.
  • Kin Arena: Front Entrance, Fire Panel, Electrical & IT upgrades
    • The final construction phase is underway. On schedule for completion and aiming to open early September.
  • Memorial Arena: Lobby Flooring & Pillars, Dressing Rooms/ Bathrooms
    • The project at the arena has reached substantial completion and is open to the public. Minor items are still be completed, including signage.
  • Mile Zero Parks Society: Paint Buildings, Decking, Playground Rubber & Path
    • The painting, decking and concrete pad in front of Sudeten Hall has been completed. The pea gravel under the old playground in the Rotary Recreation Park was removed and engineered wood fiber chips were added in. An accessible path down to the misting pad will be installed Fall 2025.
  • Playgrounds: Harry Morrow Ball Diamonds, 16 Street and Phase 1 Removal & Upgrades
    • The 16 Street and Harry Morrow Playgrounds are currently being installed. Further landscaping and signage at these sites will come in 2026/2027. Playground structure removals at various sites are underway.
  • Splash Park - Design Phase
    • This project is in the procurement phase - out for tender to secure a splash park designer. The designer will then design the park and submit a permit to Northern Health for the build.
