2027 Home Owner Grant Changes
The Province of British Columbia (BC) will be reducing the Home Owner Grant by up to $200 starting January 1, 2027.
Why is the grant changing?
In its 2026 budget, BC announced it is removing the $200 Northern and Rural Home Owner Benefit from the Home Owner Grant, starting with 2027 property taxes.
The Province added this benefit in 2011 to help offset the cost of the BC carbon tax for northern and rural communities like Dawson Creek. With the consumer carbon tax no longer in effect as of April 1, 2025, BC is removing the supplement that was meant to offset it.
