Kin Arena Sports Floor Approved

Report No. 26-030 Sports Floor Extension was brought forward to seek Council’s direction on the continued use of the sports floor and ice operations at the Kin Arena and Ovintiv Events Centre. The summary and background of the sports floor and the decisions that have occurred can be found in the report online. Council directed Staff to proceed with Option 1 in the report: to establish the sports floor at the Kin Arena as a permanent facility and to continue to coordinate with Oak View Group (the management group of the events centre) for ice use at the Ovintiv Events Centre as the secondary ice facility in our community.

Addition of City Flag to Flag Policy Approved

Report No. 26-042, presented on March 9, 2026, outlined options for formally selecting the City’s flag. While a flag design had been accepted by the Heraldic Registry in 2008, it had never been formally adopted or used at City facilities.

Council has now chosen to officially adopt that 2008 design, incorporating the blue from the current flag to maintain its vibrancy, and approved Report No. 26-053 Flag Policy Amendment which was brought forward at the March 30, 2026 meeting.

Formalizing the flag will reduce confusion online, within the City’s Flag Policy, and in internal purchasing processes. There are no additional costs associated with this decision. Existing flag inventory was already low and due for replacement as part of regular operations.

Following the required 30-day policy review period, the updated Flag Policy will come into effect and new flags will be ordered.
