South Peace Soccer Association Request for Reduction in Field Fees
Council received Report No. 26-093 regarding the South Peace Soccer Association’s (SPSA) request for a reduction or waiver of field rental fees for the 2026 season, which was deferred at the April 13, 2026 Council meeting for additional information. Staff presented updated financial statements and budget information from the Association, noting that SPSA is projecting a modest operating deficit for 2025/2026, with registration fees remaining its primary source of revenue and reserve funds available to help offset short-term shortfalls.
Council also reviewed the City’s fee structure, historical field usage, and the financial implications of providing fee relief, including the gap between annual field revenues and maintenance costs. Options presented for Council’s consideration include approving a grant in lieu up to a specified amount, maintaining the current fee structure, or requesting additional information regarding long-term financial sustainability and potential future funding requests. Council chose to defeat the original motion, which means no field fees will be waived or reduced for the SPSA.
