Emergency Preparedness Week: Be Ready, Stay Informed, Stay Safe
Dawson Creek, BC — Emergency Preparedness Week runs from May 3–9, and residents are encouraged to take simple steps now to help keep themselves, their families, and their community safe during an emergency.
Emergency Preparedness Week is a national campaign that reminds everyone to be ready for unexpected events such as floods, fires, hazardous spills, poor air quality, and other local hazards. Being prepared in advance can reduce risk and help you respond quickly and safely.
Be Prepared
In Dawson Creek, preparedness is especially important due to local risks identified in the City’s Hazard, Risk, and Vulnerability Assessment, including flooding, structural fires, water scarcity, air quality concerns, and hazardous material incidents.
Residents are encouraged to take the following actions:
- Build an Emergency Kit
Have a home emergency kit and a grab-and-go bag so you are ready if you need to leave quickly or shelter in place. - Subscribe to Emergency News
During Emergency Preparedness Week, residents who subscribe to the City’s Emergency News page will be entered to win a 4-person emergency preparedness kit. Subscribe on the City’s website. The Emergency Newsfeed is the sole source of truth for all City of Dawson Creek emergency information. - Sign Up for Emergency Alerts
Stay informed by signing up for alerts through NEBC Alerts to receive real-time emergency information for the region. - Register on the BC Services App
If you are displaced during an emergency, the Province uses the BC Services App to identify you and transfer funds to your bank account for lodging, food and other supplies. Be a step ahead and have your account ready to go at all times. Register online. - Become an ESS Volunteer
Emergency Support Services (ESS) volunteers help support residents during emergencies. The City is currently recruiting volunteers. Fill out the form online.
“Emergency preparedness is something everyone can do, and small steps can make a big difference,” said Chelsea Mottishaw, Tourism, Emergency and Climate Readiness Manager. “By taking time now to prepare, residents can help protect themselves and support our community when it matters most.”
