Capital Projects Update - October 2025

Many of the 2025 projects on the list for Capital Projects have been completed or are nearing completion. Read more about the latest update on major projects below or visit www.dawsoncreek.ca/capitalprojects to find more information on each project. 

Drainage, Paving, Sewer, Sidewalks and Water

  • 1 Street from 116 Avenue to Highway 2 – Paving
    • Work began on October 14, 2025 with an anticipated completion date of October 31, 2025. This projects entails paving a stretch of road that has never been paved previously from 116 Avenue to Highway 2 on 1 Street.
  • 110 Avenue from 15 Street to 17 Street – Drainage, Paving, Sewer and Water
    • 110 Avenue was paved earlier this month and is now open to traffic. Restoration works and the installation of new streetlighting is being completed.
  • 95 Avenue from 8 Street to 13 Street – Drainage, Paving, Sewer and Water
    • Paving of 95 Avenue took place earlier this month. There are still some restoration works to be completed. The project is expected to be completed on time before the October 31, 2025 deadline.
  • Arenas Parking Lot: Phase 1 – Drainage
    • Utility replacement was completed earlier this month and paving is underway. This project is projected to reach substantial completion by October 20, 2025. The entrance to the arenas is still open throughout the duration of the project.
  • Barbaree Park: Storm Daylighting and Beautification – Drainage
    • Due to this project occurring in Barbaree Park, the section of the Dawson Trail that runs through the park has been removed and is currently closed. The path is estimated to be open for the winter months; however, may not be paved until next year’s paving season.  
  • Sewer Trunk Main Replacement: Phase 1 - 110 Avenue from 13 Street to 8 Street
    • The substantial walkthrough was completed mid October. There are minor items to touch up, but overall the project was a huge success.
    • Some additions to this project include turning the intersection of 110 Avenue and 9 Street into a 3-way stop and installing a raised pedestrian crossing at the west side of the 9 Street intersection to encourage reduced speeds along 110 Avenue, as well as safe crossing for all pedestrians, including wheelchair/accessibility users and all active transportation users.

Facilities, Media and Technology

  • City Hall Capacity and Security Measures
    • Construction on the main floor of City Hall began early October and will continue over the next few months. The project includes the restructuring of the front desk/lobby to improve security measures, as well as streamline the customer service process. During construction, customers are being redirected to the lower level for utilities, taxes and other payments. Customers seeking Bylaw, Building or Planning help will still be assisted on the main level.
  • Dawson Creek Art Gallery Entrance – Phase 2: Landscaping, Sidewalk and Pathway
    • This project entails enhancing the outdoor entrance to the Dawson Creek Art Gallery, making the sidewalk and pathway are fully accessible for all patrons. Landscaping around the area will also be completed.
  • Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre: Regrout Main Pool, Pool Pilots & Lights
    • The Kenn Borek Aquatic Centre projects were completed, including the incredible undertaking of regrouting the main lap pool – which was the main cause of the extended two-month shutdown. The aquatic centre is now open and the current schedule can be found at www.dawsoncreek.ca/pool.
  • Kin Arena: Front Entrance, Fire Panel, Electrical and IT upgrades
    • The Kin Arena Front Entrance project is complete. The Kin Arena Sports Floor, a one-year trial period that includes trading the Kin ice for sports flooring, officially opened on September 8, 2025.   • Mile Zero Parks Society: Paint Buildings, Decking, Playground Rubber & Path
    • An accessible, concrete path to the misting pad is being installed.
  • Playgrounds: Harry Morrow Ball Diamonds, 16 Street and Phase 1 Removal & Upgrades
    • The Harry Morrow Ball Diamonds Playground is installed and open for play. The 16 Street Playground is also installed and open for play but will be closed temporarily  within the next few weeks for the installation of a bike path and additional amenities.

Sidewalks and Active Transportation

  • Dawson Trail – 17 Street Connector
    • The Dawson Trail – 17 Street Connector includes creating connections on the Dawson Trail, tying in 17 Street to the Chamberlain Heritage Nature Park on 102 Avenue, and the trail entrance on 101 Avenue off 17 Street. These connections will ensure that path users have a safer space to travel along 17 Street.
