City Projects Update - Major Infrastructure Work Across Dawson Creek Planned for 2026
Dawson Creek, BC — Significant capital project work is underway across Dawson Creek in 2026, with upgrades to roads, recreation facilities, parks, and essential infrastructure continuing throughout the construction season.
Several high-impact projects are currently in progress or scheduled to begin shortly, directly improving access, safety, and community services for residents.
Key Community Projects Underway
Arenas Parking Lot Reconstruction
Work is progressing on the reconstruction of the main arena parking lot. Grading and base preparation have been completed, with paving and final surface work underway. Once complete, the upgraded lot will provide improved drainage, safer access, and a more durable surface for year-round use at the arena complex.
Curling Canopy and Facility Upgrades
Upgrades at the curling rink are moving forward, including the installation of a new canopy structure. Structural work and foundation preparation are underway, improving shelter and usability for athletes and spectators during seasonal operations.
Canalta Subdivision – Phase 1 Road and Drainage Improvements
Road and drainage improvements are scheduled to begin in 2026 in the Canalta Subdivision, focusing on key corridors this year. The project has been strategically phased to maintain property access and reduce traffic disruption, with additional neighbourhood sections planned for future years.
94 Avenue – 8 Street to 11 Street Reconstruction
The full reconstruction of 94 Avenue is preparing to move forward following tendering. The project includes complete road replacement along with upgrades to underground water, sewer, and drainage infrastructure to improve long-term reliability and safety along this corridor.
Medical Clinic Exterior Improvements
Exterior upgrades are underway at the City-owned Rimrock Medical Clinic (leased by a third-party, formerly known as Eljen Medical Clinic), including new cladding, accessibility improvements, and site resurfacing. These improvements will enhance the building’s appearance, accessibility, and long-term durability for users and visitors.
Sewer Trunk Main Replacement (110 Avenue from 13 Street to 8 Street)
The Sewer Trunk Main Replacement project between 13 Street and 8 Street was substantially completed in 2025. Final closeout work continues under warranty, including contractor responsibilities for ongoing monitoring and maintenance of restoration areas.
As part of the final stabilization requirements, the contractor remains responsible for ensuring successful establishment of hydroseeded areas along 110 Avenue and adjacent corridors.
Additional Work Across the Community
Other active projects include playground upgrades, park improvements, water and sewer system upgrades, and ongoing infrastructure maintenance programs such as road patching and utility modernization.
These investments are part of ongoing efforts to renew aging infrastructure, improve service reliability, and support safe and accessible public spaces across the community.
Looking Ahead
Additional work will continue throughout the 2026 construction season, with several projects scheduled to move from design into construction later this year. Residents can expect ongoing improvements across transportation, recreation, and utility systems.
