Elected Positions

The City of Dawson Creek elects:

One (1) Mayor
Six (6) Councillors

All positions may serve a four-year term.

Elected officials are responsible for establishing the City's strategic direction, adopting bylaws and policies, approving budgets, and representing the interests of the community.

Am I Eligible to Run?

To be nominated for local office, a person must:

Be a Canadian citizen;
Be 18 years of age or older on General Voting Day;
Have been a resident of British Columbia for at least six months immediately before nomination;
Not be disqualified under the Local Government Act, Community Charter, or any other enactment from holding office.

Prospective candidates are encouraged to review all provincial eligibility requirements before submitting nomination documents.

Official Candidate List

The official list of candidates will be published following the close of nominations.

The order of names of candidates on the ballot will be determined by lot in accordance with the Local Government Act.

Candidates must submit completed nomination documents during the official nomination period established by legislation.

Nomination packages will include:

Nomination documents;
Candidate information guide;
Campaign financing information;
Disclosure requirements;
Important election deadlines; and
Contact information for election officials.

Nomination packages can be picked up in person at City Hall.

Campaign financing rules for local elections in British Columbia are administered by Elections BC.

Candidates are responsible for understanding and complying with all campaign financing requirements, including:

Campaign contribution limits;
Campaign expense limits;
Financial disclosure requirements;
Third-party advertising rules; and
Sponsorship information authorization requirements.

Candidates are encouraged to familiarize themselves with these requirements early in the election process.
