  • Step 1: Complete Intermediate (Standard) First Aid Course
  • Step 2: Complete Bronze Medallion Course
  • Step 3: Complete Bronze Cross Course
  • Step 4: Complete National Lifeguard Course
  • Optional Step 5: Complete your Instructor Training in First Aid, Lifesaving, Swim Lessons, Lifeguarding or Climbing. Become certified as an instructor in a number of different areas!

Lifeguard Course Information

Pre-requisite: 13 years of age or have completed Bronze Star

  • Teaches an understanding of the lifesaving principles embodied in the four components of water rescue education: judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness. Rescuers learn advanced lifesaving techniques for challenging rescues of increased risk involving conscious and unconscious victims in varying water depths.

Pre-requisite: Bronze Medallion

  • Bronze Cross is worth 2 credits for grade 11. Designed for lifesavers who want the challenge of more advanced training, including an introduction to safety supervision. As the Lifesaving Society's Assistance Lifeguard program, Bronze Cross hones judgment, knowledge, skill and fitness to prepare candidates for success in National Lifeguard (NL) and instructor certifications.

  • Provides comprehensive training covering all aspects of first aid, CPR and AED use! Whether you need training for employment or simply want to be prepared to respond to life-threatening emergencies, this course will give you the skills and knowledge to act with confidence.

Pre-requisites: Bronze Cross (need not be current), Standard First Aid from a recognized Agency, 15 years old (by last day), Airway Management and Oxygen Administration

Lifesaving Society Website

  • National Lifeguard is worth 2 credits for grade 12. The primary role of a lifeguard is to prevent incidents and, where this fails, the timely and effective resolution of emergencies. National Lifeguard builds on the previously learned lifesaving principles and is designed to prepare candidates to be professional facilitators of safety in aquatic environments.
