Property Taxes

Property taxes are based on a home’s assessed value and the City’s tax rate. In larger communities, homes are often valued much higher, so even with lower rates, total taxes can be similar.

In Dawson Creek, lower average home values mean the rate can be higher, but total tax bills are comparable once assessments are considered.

Property taxes are determined by multiplying the assessed value of your property by the property tax rate.

Assessed Value

BC Assessment evaluates the value of your home or business based on the current market value and any improvements.

Property Tax Rate

Council determines the tax rate each year for the 7 different property classes. This must be done by May 15 each year.

Property Tax Bill

Your property tax bill is the assessment value times the tax rate.
