Bylaws explained
Bylaws are laws created by the City and the City Bylaw Officers enforce the bylaws.
Bylaws need three readings before consideration of adoption. Most bylaws receive the first three readings at one meeting, and then adoption is considered at the following meeting. There are different requirements for zoning and OCP bylaws. The public is encouraged to provide input.
Example of a Bylaw: The Parking Bylaw No. 4214. This provides Council with the authority, by bylaw, to regulate parking within the City limits and remove vehicles that are in contravention of this bylaw.

Each bylaw has a title and a number, for example, Noise Bylaw 3873. Each amendment to the bylaw also has a number but if you want to see the bylaw with all its amendments incorporated, look for the Consolidated Bylaw.
Consolidated bylaws - For convenience, the most used bylaws have been consolidated. In a consolidated bylaw, we updated the original bylaw (or "parent" bylaw) to include all the amendments to that bylaw.
Individual bylaws - Each individual bylaw has an unique number. An individual bylaw may be a "parent" bylaw or it may be an amending bylaw.

Policies explained
The City of Dawson Creek policies provide a general guideline to regulate organizational action and conduct. Providing a standard that helps users exercise good judgement and discretion in the management of daily affairs. Council approves the policies.
Example of a Policy: The City has established a Land Acquisition Policy when the City proposes to purchase or acquire land or improvements.
