Western Larch is considered a medium – large sized tree growing up to 82-148 feet tall (25-45 m). Larch only grows in well drained soils and will not tolerate waterlogged soils. Sun exposure for the European Larch is part sun – full sun. Larix species have both male and female cones. The female cones are a showy red/ purple color. Larix is the only coniferous tree that loses its needles through the winter.
